Cape Lookout, NC - Albie Heaven

The best false albacore fishing on the entire East Coast centers around the Southern Outer Banks of North Carolina in late October and throughout November. Albie addicts from around the country make the pilgrimage to the waters around Harkers Island, Beaufort, Cape Lookout in search of huge rafts of churning albie feeds and the chance to catch these incredible fish in the 15 to 20 plus pound class on fly and light tackle spin gear.

I base myself in Beaufort, NC starting mid October and host anglers for multi-day trips that can include lodging. While the primary focus is on chasing and catching false albacore, this fishery is incredibly diverse. In the areas where we hunt albies we could find big spanish mackerel or bigger old drum - trophy-sized redfish. On kind weather days, near offshore waters offer opportunities to target amberjack, almaco jacks, king mackerel, sharks, barracuda and even blackfin tuna.

The Beaufort Morehead City area is an ideal base with ready access to Beaufort Inlet, a host of excellent dining and drinking options, top notch tackle shops, and a community of anglers and guides that are passionate, welcoming, and skilled.

I rent a three bedroom, three bathroom condo with a sunning water view and an onsite marina. The Gammy 1 is docked right there at the Olde Towne Yacht Club on Radio Island, steps from where we stay. It’s the closest location to the inlet and in view of the best dining options in both Beaufort and Morehead City.

If you’d like to learn more about this fishery and the packages I offer, please give me a call or send me a note. I’m smitten with it all and would love to share the experience with you.
